Matheran |
Matheran is situated in the
Matheran range of sahyadris at a
height of 2516 feet. To reach
Matheran one has to first reach
Neral. Neral is well connected
to Mumbai by rail and road. From
Neral, Matheran can be reached
by a narrow gauge railway or by
taxies. Railway function
normally in summer and winter
season. Taxies leave you at
Dasturi Naka, where after paying
tax you can proceed towards
Bazarpeth. Train directly takes
you to the bazarpeth. One can
even reach Matheran by foot. Getting there : Mumbai, 100 kms/65
Mile. away is the nearest
airport. Neral 21 kms. away, is
where you transfer to the toy
train. Mumbai is 108 kms. away
by road, via Karjat and Neral.
Pune is 120 kms. away. Taxis are
available from Neral to Dastoori
car park. No vehicles are
allowed inside Matheran and
ponies are the favoured means of
transport. Don’t miss the
station, used by the train four
times a day. It boasts a tiny
steam engine mounted, with great
pride, on a pedestal. It served
the people of Matheran for 77
chuffing years. |

Mahabaleshwar |
Mahabaleshwar is situated amidst
the heights of the Sahyadris,
about 120 km south of Pune.
Regular State Transport and
private buses ply to
Mahabaleshwar. Private taxis
also are available in plenty. A
drive up to Mahabaleshwar is
most pleasant. A popular holiday
resort with the Burra Sahibs of
the Raj, the thick foliage of
the hill station is punctuated
with generously sized bungalows
of another age. The landscape is
however fast changing, with
modern architecture, mostly of
the non-descript, grotesque
variety providing the beloved
holiday destination with more
than its fair share of
controversy. Mahabaleshwar's famous "points"
offer breathtaking views of
valleys that are full of
evergreen forests and lush
undergrowth. Springs and water
falls abound in the area
offering lovely picnic spots.
Many of these points have good
motorable roads. The winding
rides through thick foliage are
an experience. If one really
wants to enjoy nature in all its
placid glory, it is a must for
every visitor to take leisurely
walks along these sylvan paths.
One can also ride on ponies'
backs, savouring nature's virgin
viridity. Being mobile is
necessary in Mahabaleshwar, if
you would like to cover all its
sights in a short timespan. If,
however, you do not have your
own vehicle, hired taxis and
mini-buses are easily available.
Situated at a height of 1372 m,
Mahabaleshwar is one of the most
popular and picturesque hill
resorts in Maharashtra. The
magnificent hill resort is a
paradise of the tourists and
famous for weekend gateway
specially for the persons having
passion for driving across the
hills and ghats. Mahabaleshwar
is having the highest rainfall
in the Monsoon in Maharashtra. |

Lonawala |

Lonavala is a Hill station in
Maharashtra. Also known as the
jewel of the Sahyadri Mountains.
This Hill Station is also a
popular Health Resort in the
western ranges on the
sahyadri,It Is situated on a
hieght of 625 mtrs. above sea
level and is a popular gateway
from Mumbai and Pune. It also
serves as a starting point for
tourists interested in visiting
the famous, ancient Buddhist
rock cut caves of Bhaja and
Karla, which are located near
this hill station. Lonavala is
located in the western part of
the state of Maharashtra, in
India. It is situated 106 km
southeast of Mumbai at an
altitude of 625 m above sea
level. Lonavala provides a
panoramic view of the lush green
surroundings of the Sahyadri
ranges. The peaceful environs of
the town, which provides a great
escape from the hustle and
bustle of Mumbai city, attract
tourists to this place.
Travelers can take a walk along
the waterfalls, the grassy
abundance and hills in and
around Lonavala. The mountainous
terrain of Lonavala is ideal for

Gwalior |
Gwalior is an historical place
of Madhya Pradesh. It is
surrounded by District Morena in
the North, District Shivpuri in
the south, District Bhind in the
East and District Datia in the
west. The District is having two
sub-divisions, namely, Gwalior &
